Our last night in Montmagny
One of the things Mireille and I find it hard to get used to as we continue our travels-with-charlie is how time does seem to fly! I do not know why it is, but I think it has to do with the fact that we do not spend enough time anywhere to get into the ruts which it is so easy to fall into when things become commonplace.
From the time we left Mesa, we have not spent more than the work week in any place where we stopped. When we pulled into Montmagny, I was looking forward to staying in one place for a while. I think Mireille was too, but mostly she was happy to be “home” where she grew up and where her family and many of her friends still live.

After staying a week and traveling on the weekends from Mesa to Montmagny, two months seemed like a long time, but we knew it would not be. We were busy almost every weekend evening and many weekday evenings. We saw friends, family, went to one funeral, and missed another. We met new friends when we were not running around visiting with others. Two months just flew.

Before we knew it, it was time to go. We had everything pretty well packed up ready to get an early start this past Friday evening when aunts, cousins, and friends started coming by to say their last goodbyes. It was exceptional because it was completely unplanned. Since it had been so warm and humid, we all sat inside in the air conditioning. At one time there were nine of us in the living room, all talking (still French Canadians after all) and having a drink.

As the night wound up, we had a last toast of Applejack with everyone and left the glasses to wash up in the morning.
We will see everyone again next July and August!
