…speaking of god

I understand that no one can answer
“Why are we here?” Or “Where did we come from?”

And of course I will listen to your story

However before you tell me of your god
answer me a few questions first

Is your reason for wanting to share
based on love, judgement, or filling a quota?

Did you come to make your leap of faith on your own
or were you pushed over the edge?

Did you grow up in a world of belief
your religion a function of daily life?

Were you terrorized on the wages of sin
by one in whom you trust?

Have your own two eyes witnessed any miracle
over which even doubters puzzle?

Are you in possession of a shred of evidence
aside the words in your holy book?

Can you convince me first that you have anything to say
with even a nodding familiarity with the truth?
